What is Tessera?
Tessera is an AI companion that gets to know you the way a friend would — asking about your interests, how you think, what you care about, and what gets you excited. Sometimes that's a conversation, sometimes it's a game. There are no right or wrong answers and nobody is grading you.
It's a set path with an end: 12 sessions, grouped into three milestones. Along the way it shows you things about yourself you might not have noticed — patterns in what you like, how you approach problems — and it finishes by naming the college majors and careers that would actually feel like a fit for you.
It's not always a conversation
Answering the same kind of question twelve times in a row would get old fast, so Tessera doesn't do that. Sessions come in different shapes, and it picks the one that fits what it's trying to learn:
Actual conversations
The classic one. Tessera asks about your life, you answer in your own words, it follows the interesting thread instead of reading off a list.
Guessing games
Tessera takes a shot at calling something about you and you tell it how close it got. Weirdly fun, and being told "nope, not even close" is genuinely useful data.
Quick yes/no quizzes
Fast rounds of yes/no, would-you-rather, pick-one. Barely any typing — good for when you have four minutes and no energy.
None of it is graded and none of it has a right answer. It's just different ways of getting at the same thing: what you're actually like.
Pick the mood you're in
You also choose how Tessera talks to you, and you can change it whenever you want. Want it goofy and fast? It'll be goofy and fast. Want to sit with a real question about what a good life looks like? It can do that too.
This matters more than it sounds like it should. The style that gets an honest answer out of you on a Tuesday after practice is not the style that works on a slow Sunday afternoon. So Tessera lets you set it, rather than guessing.
What a conversation looks like
That's it. Tessera asks, you answer, it moves on. No lectures, no judgment, no "have you considered..." Just good questions.
What you actually find out
After a few sessions, Tessera starts connecting the dots. Here is the kind of thing it might tell you:
"You light up when you talk about building things and solving problems, but you prefer working on your own terms rather than following instructions. That combination points toward fields like engineering, game design, or starting your own thing."
By the end of the three weeks it gets specific. Not just "you like science," but "here's what kind of science — undergrad biology, pre-med, computational research — here's why it fits how you're wired, and here are the real paths to get there." Tessera says which of those it's confident about and which are still a hunch, and it never dresses a guess up as a number.

Twelve sessions. Three milestones. About three weeks if you do a few a week. You can go faster or slower — but there's a finish line, and it's close enough to see from the start.

What's free and what isn't
The mirror is free. The map is paid.
Everything about who you are — the first two milestones — costs nothing. Turning that into where it points — the career paths, the majors, the match at the end — is an annual subscription. We're telling you now, on day one, because finding out at week three would feel like a bait-and-switch, and it should.
Two things worth knowing: the M3 conversations themselves are free — you're never locked out of chatting — and if a subscription ever lapses, everything already unlocked stays readable. You don't lose what you've built.
Session by session
Each session is about 10 questions and takes 5–10 minutes, whatever shape it takes that day. You can stop anytime and pick up right where you left off — nothing resets, nothing expires, and nobody nags you about a streak.

Tessera's AI is provided by Anthropic, which processes your messages in real time and may temporarily retain them for up to 30 days for safety purposes, after which they are deleted. Tessera does build a picture of your interests and personality over time. If you want, you can share those broad insights with your parents. But that is always your choice. You are never asked or nudged to share. And even if you do, they only see the big themes, never what you actually said.
We don't know who you are
Tessera never asks for your last name, your email, your address, or anything that could identify you personally. Here is everything we collect:
- Your first name (so Tessera knows what to call you)
- Your age and birthday month/day (to adapt the conversation to your age)
- Your grade (9th through gap year)
- Your gender (optional; you can skip this)
- Your state (to understand regional context)
- Your school type (public, private, charter, or homeschool)
- Your GPA range (optional; you can skip this too)
- Session summaries (short recaps, not the full conversation text)
- Interest and personality insights that Tessera figures out from your conversations
That's it. No last name. No email. No phone number. No location tracking. None of this can be traced back to you as a person. Your data is stored securely in the cloud, encrypted and protected.
Safe to be yourself
Tessera does not give you advice. It does not tell you what to do. It does not try to steer you in any direction. There is no right answer. There is no wrong answer. You can be completely honest about what you think and feel. That is the whole point.
No one is going to sit you down and ask, "So, what do you want to do with your life?" Tessera takes that pressure away. It turns that big, stressful question into small, easy conversations that happen naturally over time. And when your parents ask "what's the plan?" you have something real to show them.
